DIY Totting Up Kit (12 penalty points or more)
- Are you feeling overwhelmed by thoughts of a pending court case because you can’t afford a lawyer?
- Is the anxiety about having to go to court, not knowing what to say or how to tell your side of the story getting too much?
- Is your world falling apart at the thought losing your licence, your job and having to tell your family and friends?
- And what about those extortionate insurance premiums once your ban ends?
- Or, perhaps you’re a legal eagle in the making and you just want an easy-to-understand guide on how to prepare and best explain your case to the court?
You Can Represent Yourself
My DIY Totting Up Kit has been created to allow you to arrive at court with a complete roadmap, enabling you to overcome the absence of a lawyer and Do It Yourself! I will show you how, and will get you to the point where you realise that the feeling of dread knowing you must attend court is largely down to three things…
That feeling of overwhelm and anxiety many people experience before they attend court is really common and is largely down to 3 main problems that I can help solve:
The fear of not knowing how the court system really operates
The experience of attending court is an alien one to most people, whose only knowledge of what happens in a courtroom is likely to come from TV series that are more about the drama than the facts.
However, my DIY Totting Up Kit will tell you everything you need to know about representing yourself from how to complete court paperwork to what to say and how to say it when in court.
When you understand the facts and know what to expect, you can prepare properly and dramatically improve your chances of success – as well as eliminating the anxiety and fear that you may have been battling.
Stage Fright
The idea of standing up and speaking in public – and especially in a courtroom – can be literally terrifying for some people. However, armed with my DIY Totting Up Kit I will build your confidence so you can handle things like a pro. Plus, there will be less speaking for you to do because you will be able to hand in pre-prepared letters and documents instead. My kit will show you how to prepare a professional and persuasive presentation that will hopefully help to save your licence.
Limbo
Many cases can take months to conclude. If you find yourself in such a situation it will be necessary to manage the anxiety you feel due to the perpetual uncertainty. My DIY Kit contains a plan of action for compartmentalising the problem so that it doesn’t leave you paralysed with stress and worry.
“The DIY Motoring Law Kits I have created are all written by me, with my voice, expertise and “outside of the box” way of thinking. Hopefully, you can tell from having read about me, how easy it will be to follow what I have to say and if you prefer to skip the longer version of the DIY Kit, I have even produced a “Do It Quick” section in each module so you can skip the lengthy modules, get to the point, save time but still be in a far better place in terms of your understanding and presentation when you attend court.

So, What Do I Get When I Buy The Course?
When I started writing the course content, I had to train myself to think about what you would want to know and what would be helpful to you. I have created 10 (and a half) modules some of which may not be completely relevant to your circumstances depending on the stage your case has reached. Some modules can be skipped in that case.
The Modules are:
- Module 1 – Pre-court Paperwork – This section provides guidance on dealing with any paperwork you could receive before a court action against you is confirmed, and within this I also cover common questions about aspects such as time-limits and also possible technicalities, such as where it is not yet confirmed who the driver was at the time of the allegation, when a speed awareness course might be used for a better outcome, plus a number of other essential considerations.
- Module 2 – Sentencing Rules – When facing a totting-up disqualification there are different rules concerning sentences and penalties that can be imposed as alternatives. This section explains these in detail and will enable you to calculate how you can achieve the most favourable outcome in your own case.
- Module 3 – Single Justice Procedure Notice – Most court cases begin with you receiving this specific document, and this module gives you all the guidance required to complete the form correctly and in good time, which will lay the foundations for a successful hearing later at court.
- Module 4 – Mitigation – Or in other words, the evidence you wish the court to take in to account which could lessen your sentence. This crucial section guides you through what type of evidence is likely to assist you in achieving a more favourable, how to present it and best explain it in court.
- Module 4a – Driver Improvement Course – In this section you’ll learn about a secret weapon that may result in you retaining your licence in certain scenarios, for example when facing more than one new offence while already having points on your licence. In such cases it is often wise to enrol on a driving course to show the court you are taking proactive steps to address your offending behaviour. In this module I explain more about such courses and what you need to do if you decide this is the right move for you.
- Module 5 – Public Transport and Alternatives – The court will not accept your arguments unless you show you have considered what alternative methods of travel would be available to you in the absence of your own transport. For example, it will help to show that a journey that normally takes you 1 hour in your car would take 4 hours by multiple buses and trains. The guidance in this section will enable you to gather the required information and present it in the most effective way at the court hearing.
- Module 6 – Character References – Accumulating impactful and beneficial character references should be considered a very important step in your pre-court preparation. This module covers the most efficient and effective way of achieving this – including guidance for the referee on what they should and should not say.
- Module 7 – Income Form – This must be completed so that the court can calculate the appropriate level of fine to be imposed. Guidance given in this section covers what must be included and what can be omitted, as well as which sections must be completed and which are optional.
- Module 8 – Preparing for Court – To ensure your confidence is optimal, this section contains a trove of useful information that will boost your state of mind through feeling empowered with knowledge. Who’s who in the courtroom, how to address the Magistrates, what to wear, who can go to court with you, how long your case should take – this and much, much more is covered in this section.
- Module 9 – Duty Solicitor – This module explains more about the role of the Duty Solicitor in your case – or, the lack of meaningful involvement you are likely to experience. The scheme that makes these people available in no way ensures that you will benefit particularly from their involvement, and their service to you will in no way compare to the knowledge and advantage you will have accumulated by working the DIY Motoring Law Kit.
- Module 10 – After the hearing – In this last section I explain the final steps you will need to take once your case is concluded. This includes a variety of topics, for example the most effective way of paying fines, informing your insurers and so on.
Templates
Did you know that the majority of legal templates in the public domain have not been drafted by real lawyers? Every single template in the DIY Totting Up Kit is legally drafted and even include letters to the police to argue why your NIP is out of time, as well as sample character reference letters and other useful documents
Totting Up Videos
Sometimes, watching a video can seem more appealing than reading about the ins and outs of legal cases and to that end each module includes its own video presentation. Each video is a more visual representation of the written material contained in the module and offers a different way of approaching the same material should you wish.
Note: There are bonus videos planned, featuring some exciting guest speakers. Watch this space!

I’d like to take the time to thank you for all of your efforts in handling my court case. Your breadth of knowledge in this field has proven invaluable in retaining my license, without which my life and the lives of my family would have been turned upside down. For that I am eternally grateful and wouldn’t hesitate at recommending you to colleagues should they find themselves in any similar situation.
I think it would be remiss of me not to highlight Mr Maloney’s handling of my plea and his selection of which route to go down has left me in no doubt that it was the very best course of action, yielding the best results for my particular case. I’d also like to thank Miss Gillian Evans who remained a calming voice of reason from my very first call to Geoffrey Miller through to the day before my case.
You leave me with no doubt what so ever that you are the leading experts in this field.

Easy to find online and good, encouraging website. Really helpful from the off, even at my initial enquiry stage before I’d even contracted you. Your helpful, friendly, honest and knowledgable approach inspired confidence. You were a great balance of friendly and professional. I found this was true not just of my main contact Vicky, but anyone else I happened to come into contact with on the phone or in your offices. You kept me up to date with regular communication, and at no time did I feel like I was chasing, even though this was just a small case for you. Your advice was clear, balanced and helpful. The whole process seemed manageable and bearable with your help, and of course getting the desired result at court couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much.
Very professional and helpful. I was happy with all the information and assistance provided. 10/10!

Dear Jeanette
I would just like to say a massive thank you, my result was fantastic, I would recommend your firm everyday of the week, I can not believe how you got the result you did for me.
I would have been happy with a 3 month ban considering the circumstances against me but to come away with a 28 day ban to say I am over the moon is an understatement.
My fees were minimal considering the support, constant updates and a friendly, honest and to be truthful a ruthless barrister.
If you need anyone to write a review for your firm of solicitors please ask me first.
Thank you so much.

Very well represented at court and a good outcome due to the quality of that representation.

I was facing a possible 9 points, a heavy fine, a long ban due to totting up and even a Community order for hitting another vehicle whilst turning right on to a main road and failing to stop afterwards. The independent witness had stated that I had overtaken queuing cars to get to the junction and that I barged through and sped off regardless.
The solicitor took my details and explained the potential punishments, the influencing factors and the possible strategies which could be followed by my barrister. Options were explained and an approach was agreed upon. Letters of mitigation were drafted to try and reduced a ban to a couple of months and so I went to court hoping that the letters would be taken into account and I would be driving again soon.
The barrister followed the approach and skillfully showed that damage was light, no one was hurt and that this was in fact more a case of a momentary lapse of concentration from an otherwise good driver and a worthwhile member of society.
The Court gave me the minimum number of points, a lighter fine and I kept my license.
You may have made mistakes to end up in court but don’t make another one by instructing another firm.

14 months ago, I managed to get myself caught speeding, triggering a court appearance as it got me to 12 points. One month later, three points dropped off my licence and then two weeks later I was caught speeding again (no excuses, just total lack of concentration). I still hadn’t been to court for the first problem.
I approached a local Solicitors that had been recommended to me, but left the initial meeting more confused and also embarrassed (maybe rightly so, but not what I’d hoped for). I looked online for people that had been in a similar position, to see what they had done and what the outcome had been. Geoffrey Miller Solicitors were mentioned a few times (nowhere near me logistically), so I went to their website and saw that they offered free initial telephone advice; I phoned.
I spoke to Jeanette and immediately knew I taken a step in the right direction. Jeanette’s guidance and advice was very clear and concise, immediately clearing up my confusion.
Justyna managed my case and the process from the start was detailed, calm and friendly. I was able to focus a little more on ‘normal’ life, knowing the work that was being carried out for me in the background. I believed that I could get the best outcome available, even if it was bad, it was the best I could do; that’s all I wanted. I turned up to court with reasonably low expectations, but comfortable that everything that could be done, was done. For this peace of mind, I can’t thank Justyna enough.
Court was yesterday, I turned up to meet Mike, who Justyna had arranged to be my representative for the day. Mike travelled down from Manchester to Northampton and was waiting to meet me on my arrival. It was immediately obvious that Mike was knowledgeable and comfortable in his surroundings. He knew the details of my case and was immediately up to speed and helpful with prepping me on how to manage myself through the proceeding. I didn’t realise how much the right representative would help.
The outcome of the case was, no ban.
I can’t really put into words how happy I am with this outcome. The thing I am most grateful for is that 2020 was saved for me through dealing with kind, knowledgeable people who made me feel like a priority. A lesser result wouldn’t change this.

I unfortunately accumulated 9 points on my licence and was facing a totting ban of 6 months. I couldn’t afford for this to happen as I require my licence for work. I sometimes travel in excess of 1000 miles per week. After speaking to Geoffrey Miller Solicitors I was advised to seek a short term ban which would have been able to keep me my job. At court I got a 28 day driving ban which was an excellent result for me!
